Graphics Card Recommendations

Hey all.

Been thinking about getting a new graphics card for a while now, and today my computer decided to force my hand and make me get a new one.

Turned pc on this morning and it started to make a strange sound then turned itself off and back on, so I peared into the case and all I could see was smoke and either flames or sparks! Safe to say I s**t myself a little, problem was I had to lean over pc and get very close to it as my power supply is at the bottom of my case, so trying to pull the power cord out with a face full of smoke and being worried I was going to burn my nipples off lol was not fun!

At the moment I have replaced it with an old 9600Gt, mainly to test to see if it had damaged anything else like my mother board, it seems fine by considering getting a new one just to be on safe side, although my bank balance may disagree lol.




So enough back story, I need me a new graphics card, anyone got any recommendations, I'd like to try and get one for around £150, i will go a little higher if the performance is going to be significantly better for like an extra £20 or something.

Sorry to hear about your problem,I have an ASUS EAH 5850 that I have just replaced if your interested,or have you checked out SCAN for the today only deals, they have a couple of GTX 560 in your price range.

All major PC/electical componants contain a smoke box (see top pic to the left of the card), once the smoke is released then it will no longer function, how many times have you heard 'smoke came out of it and it doesn't work anymore'

on a more useful note 560 for that sort of cash

Russell recently got a GTX560 and its a good card for a reasonable price, you could but another one later and sli then you would have super dooper graphics

Tom I also got a 560 a few weeks back but I got the MSi 560Ti OC Twin Frozr from Scan and mate it is superb.

It comes factory clocked but as all the reviews said it was still tame I have increased it from 880/1760 to 925/2225. I have done this on standard cooling and it still never goes over 60 degrees while playing, idles at 32 ish. I was drawn to the Frozr initially because of the fact it runs so cold as my case is full and v hot.

Just looked and Scan are now doing them for £174 (I paid £190 ish weeks ago).

Cant recommend it enough pal, plus u get the free game for a limited time.

EDIT: I would order one pronto I see the OC is cheaper than the normal card I think they have cocked up with the prices !

Hi Tom i agree with Messa i also have the MSI 560Ti OC Twin Frozr superb card m8 and not to bad on the pocket
if this one sets on fire m8 aleast you will have two fans to really get those flames going lol

Cheers for all the advice guys I really appreciate it.

Looks like the MSI 560Ti is the way to go, now all I gotta do is pay for the bugger lol, might wait until next week when I have decided what I'm doing about my HDD so I can order that at same time.

I really wouldn't recommend a budget card such as the 550 if you are wanting to play BF3 in decent settings and maybe MW3. Some of the top cards only just play BF3 on 1080p at a nice frame rate. To play it anything above 1080p you'll need to use Crossfire or SLI to get a nice framerate.

You'll also struggle if your on a dual core.

I've got some benchmarks for BF3 which I'll post tomorrow. Man it sets the standard.
