I've just realised that Haswell was released last week!

So, anyone upgrading? Anyone heard good or bad things about it?

hehe, for those who aren't aware it's Intel's latest generation of CPUs. It's supposed to be the 'tic' of intels 'tic-tock' release cycle, so supposed to be a big architecture change over the last generation, but I'm still not sure I can justify it still being on an i7 920

to be fair the as long as you have a reasonable clock speed then you can still get away with something as old as a core 2 or something.

I've just started work so when i've saved up a little i might be persuaded to build a desktop

Yeah, I'm tempted to build a new desktop....but apart from my graphics card there isn't really a whole lot I can justify upgrading.

I already have a nice SSD...lots of HDDs.

A slick case and a new graphics card are all I really want at the moment, and I don't even really need a new case.

I really like the idea of making a mini itx portable powerhouse though using something like the fractal node case.

Would make it much easier to lug back and forth to London and then to the LAN in Belgium next year

I love the look of the new Mac Pro - how cool is the design?!

I wish I had a use for the dual workstation graphics Shame they're no good for gaming

I imagine the price has got to be at least £2k-£3 when they come out for the well kitted out version

Yeah, when you experience the amount of overheating that i do, i think its only a matter of time

I reckon with a more cooling optimized design it would still be a good idea (for portability not cost )

I was thinking about upgrading my system, and may get back to it when i have the funds.

i've read up (a bit) on haswell vs Ivy Bridge but I don't see that much improvement. Not sure to go for Haswell or go for an older model when the prices start going down

but first... money!
