MW3 ranked vs unranked servers

If I understand it correctly public dedicated servers will not be ranked but will let the admin set the unlocked items.

Sounds like a pain in the ass... or you play unranked with low ping but no ranking or shizzle or you go for a ranking but have to do with the server issues like in MW2 again...

Will Modern Warfare 3 have Dedicated Servers?

Yes! Modern Warfare 3 supported matchmaking as well as Dedicated Servers, allowing players to find and filter via an in-game server browser or set-up their own Dedicated Server for complete control, without being restricted by any 3rd party hosting requirements. If looking for a Dedicated Server to join, if you choose not to set up your own, you can filter and favorite by Ping, Map, Gametype, Hardcore Variants, Voice, Password, and many other options.

Are Dedicated Servers Ranked or UnRanked?

Only matchmaking to public games are Ranked (meaning, you have to rank up to unlock weapons to rank on the leaderboards), choosing to play on a Dedicated Server is UnRanked. Meaning unlocks are completely controlled by the Server Admin. They can choose to unlock everything or limit class restrictions to whatever they like to fully customize the experience. You do not have to rank up in Public games to have access to weapons in Dedicated Servers, you have complete control over what is unlocked for you in a Unranked Dedicated Server.

OMG sounds like a load of crap to me

I hope BF3 is better. Will be getting it on Friday and if it lives up to what was BF2 standards when it was released I'll be well happy and might even forget the COD franchise altogether

Hmm...I'm not sure. It could be an alright best of both worlds.

The thing I really miss from MW2 is teaming up with friends before going into a match, so you were always guaranteed to be on the same side.

On the other hand, dedi servers will still be available whereby you can dictate the exact rules and weapon allowances where you don't have to put up with any hackers.

It's a shame you need to compromise both though. Also, it might not be as fun continually playing in a dedi server as there's no incentive to rank up to get better guns. I'm not sure...will have to see how it ends up panning out in reality.

Thats also my worry Robin, its all good and fun playing with your mates on a sever with rules that you like, but if your not going to be able to rank up by doing so then its not going to last long.
