Hi People,

I'm starting to get annoyed with my laptop overheating, also my graphics settings are quite low :/.

Basicly im starting to look at building a computer, i've had a look and made two different computers on PC Part Picker, i'm looking for suggestions if people know better than me.

I have aimed at a bit of a read and black theme, but any theme is cool, just trying to aim for something a little nicer than a load of random cheap components that don't look nice .

p.s. if i spend this kinda money on a computer i hope to be able to get full usage out of a 120hz monitor, and maybe be able to play a bit of battlefield/MOH (seen as my fps was sh** for them before)

Through personal experience ive always had AMD, boards n processors and they've never failed me (Touch wood) and nVidia GPUs, the GTX770 is damn nice

Also, ive tried to play FPS & RTS on laptops, over heating used to happen all the time due to limited cooling options when the hardware is being abused, so i wouldnt recommend doing that lol

Both options look pretty good tho m8, and will play any game on max settings

I have a 28" HD 1080p dedicated monitor and i play games at 1920 x 1200, the difference you'll see will be very dramatic, it took me a while to get used to from a 17" non widescreen TFT screen . . . You'll see things far quicker and faster, which in turn will improve your game play and maybe style.

As for an air con unit for the lappy, can you play in front of an open freezer? lol

Are Velociraptors worth the money these days? I used to have one years ago when they first came out, but if you have an SSD as your boot drive then do you really need one?

They probably aren't tbh. But i was looking for something a little larger that i can put mass games on, like the ones that we need at the lan, without loosing my ssd.
Then again, i suppose i could use the 4tb for that

At least I don't have so many games that I play often so I bough 2 SSD's. One for operating system and one for games.
Also on that time it was cheaper to buy two SSD than one with equal size.

The reason I ask when your buying is so I can help you find the cheapest prices but I think you've already shopped around a bit. Don't forget to look for vouchers for each place too, even if its just for free delivery etc it helps

Agreed with Cannon, Topcashback is awesome, theres hundreds of money back stuff and offers, we got SKY ages ago and got back £50 and changed power supply and got £100 back lol IN CASH (online cash that is lol)

fair enough, i have used quidco before but i normally forget when buying stuff.

I've looked at my finances and may start buying a couple of bits, it looks like i can knock a couple of hundred off the start buy removing the hdds and just use an ssd while i setup.

I think it will be september the next time i get paid, and seen as i don't know the exact date, i need to make sure i have enough for my rent

Yeah I use both but mostly Topcashback as they have slightly higer rates than Quidco but sometimes Quidco beat them so I always check both and your welcome

Has anyone got any ideas on importing stuff.
I've had a look on NCIX (canadian company) and if i factor in delivery costs and adding VAT to it (not knowing how importation tax works) it still comes to like £250 less.

Edit: also thinking about it, its probably worth getting the power supply in the UK, just to be on the safe side.

I have also had a look and it looks like i would have to pay VAT based on the invoice price (that will be on the declaration).

So my next question i suppose is, would i also have to pay some sort of Customs Duty as well as the VAT?

I can honestly say i don't understand any of the stuff with imports cos if it was cheap enough id buy most of my components from the us as they are cheap for us there compared to here. Ha, ignore me, i would save £250 if i didn't get the graphics card, and seen as it cost £330 anyway, it actually works out nearly £100 more to import it.

Yeah, i just had a look on ebay, there isn't that much that i could see.

I think the best prices i can see is the today-only offers on scan, especially the cpu/mobo/ram bundle saves like £100 (downgrade on ram, but i don't think i would know the difference).

And yeah, as i said i think it will be another month at least before i start. so yeah, i'll keep an eye for epic deals.
