Internet has always been a priority but the budget was calculated for 24 attending players (which was never a problem in the past few years) and we would still have room for extra people which would mean we would have budget for prizes/activities/food/...
Due to the recent cancellations we do not have the budget to pay almost 500€ for a stable internet connection at the current venue as it doesn't have a connection on it's own. Which means we need to rent a temporary connection which well aren't cheap unfortunately. We've been looking for cheaper alternatives (4G or Hugo's place) to have some options without having to surcharge everybody. Either we pay more, we play over 4G or we go to another cheaper venue (Hugo' & Trinnie's backyard). The choice is up to you.

i don't mind paying extra and i don't mind to go to Trinnis be...garden. The fast decision is what counts. So that everything can get sorted.

EDIT: Playing over a 4g network isn't an option i think.

OK I consider it decided then. LAN will take place at our place. I will start warning all the neighbour that they should keep their dogs and cats in during that weekend.

What about the security of the equipment when everyone's asleep and possible noise complaints from the neighbors? They going to be cool with having 20 odd people eating, drinking, laughing and joking about for much of the day and night for 48-36 hours in what's essentially a 2/3 day gaming garden party?

You may need to get a proper gazebo/tent with temporary flooring to provide stability for the tables and equipment and to keep things off the ground if the weather is inclement and the ground is wet or muddy. This could destroy your grass if it's bad weather for a few days, not sure if that's an issue or not with where you live.

Will it be possible to run enough electric from the house to an outdoor area to power 20 full sized gaming rigs without stability issues?

What kind of building that size doesn't have high speed internet access? You'd think the venue was in africa

Trinny and I can host the lan in our backyard. Its big enough and we can rent a couple of big party tents. 8x4m. one for sleeping and one for gaming.

I highly doubt you can fit 20 gaming rigs comfortably in an 8x4m tent., that's not that big. It would be worth drawing it out and actually calculating how much space each table and setup will require.


Is there even small village hall or something nearby perhaps?

I'm still game for the LAN etc. but it will be unlikely you'll be able to get away with running 20 PCs + Monitors + Switches + Ketal / Hair dryer / Shower through the electrics of your house without everything going bang.


Whats the main fuse in your house? You'll need to make sure extension leads are plugged in on multiple circuits & rings (upstairs / downstairs)

There is absolutely no way you can get 20 people on a single ring. I'd highly recommend you ask a sparky.


If you can get a picture of your fuse box I've got a few chaps who might be able to advise.

Our fuse box is 3x380V-32A wich should be fine. It always worked at our old place with about 30 computers.
We were planning on hiring 2 tents (2 times 8x4m) wich should be enough for gaming and a extra tent to sleep.
The security is no problem. We live in a good area and strangers can't acces our backgarden cause we have a gate that will be locked and there is fences all around. The neighbours don't have a problem with 20 odd ppl in the garden.(we only have neighbours on the left side as the houses on the back are empty for a long time now and they are starting to build on our right side.)

To be fair mate, it sounds like someone dropped the ball big time on this and it's been in the works for a year. I'm not sure if it was simple (but major) oversight and someone forgot to check if they had internet at this venue or if it's more complicated than that, but either way you can't blame people for being slightly miffed by the blunder, have a few questions and be concerned as to how it will all work out. Especially seeing as lots of people have invested in booking time off work and transport for this event months ago.

That being said I also have full confidence that yourself, H, T, and everyone else will pull together to still make this a great LAN to remember. The likes of H, T, Willow, David etc have 10 years experience in putting these things together. I'm sure that LAN Zone X -The Summer Garden Party Edition will still be an absolute corker, we're just going to have to work together that bit more to pull it off this year. I'm still totally jealous I'm not going, the garden party edition has a nice ring to it and will make for some nice banners

Ok just to be clear it was no blunder. Red has calculated the costs for venue and internet and stated from the beginning that we would need 24 participants paying in front to cover the costs.
At this point we don't have 24 ppl so he had to look for a cheaper alternative.
Dunno how its in the UK but over here these venues dont have internet as the main purpose of these halls are to host weddings or other kind of gatherings. I'm still looking around to see if I can find a venue but so far none of the ones I contacted have an internet connection.
So the garden party is our last resort. I will keep trying to find an alternative location but if we cant find one the garden is a very good solution.

Tents are perfectly possible. It will add a certain "vibe" to the experience
And we can have a BBQ
Play on the trampoline
Run naked through the streets (All neighbours do that in our street)

Main thing is... We all get together and have a good time.
